Hacked-Together Pointillist Dot Matrix Printer (via Popular Mechanics)

Creative engineerers make simple printer with Sharpie pen and some Processing code:

When a Minnesota outfit of all-star DIY-ers called 1.21 Jigawatts won this summer’s Red Bull Creation Contest, we couldn’t wait to have them create a project just for PM readers. Here, a couple of team members working as Mixed Media Engineering outline how they built a DIY processor/printer that can transform a regular JPEG image into a pointillist work of art, and print it by making dots with a Sharpie. If you’d like to try this project yourself, you can download the software that they wrote.

Amazing what one determined nerd can do with four quarter inch shafts, two stepper motors, and a sharpie.
